9 Home Design Trends to Embrace in 2021

After an unpredictable year, we’re making a few bets on the design trends people will be embracing as they head into the new year.

Remodeling your home can be a great way to breathe new life into it – and stay ahead of the latest design trends. Here are nine trends you should consider embracing in 2021:

1. Minimalism: This trend is all about simplicity, elegance, and functionality. Keep your décor clean and uncluttered, and focus on using quality materials that will stand the test of time.

2. Natural materials: Wood, stone, and other natural materials are very popular right now, and they're likely to remain so in 2021. They add warmth and character to any room, and they're also very sustainable.

3. Industrial style: The industrial style is perfect for anyone who loves a modern yet rustic.

4. Home remodeling will be more popular than ever. With people wanting to stay in their homes longer, they're going to be investing in remodeling to make their homes more comfortable and functional. This could mean anything from renovating the kitchen or bathroom to adding a new patio door or home office.

5. There will be a rise in home automation. With technology becoming more affordable and accessible, we'll see more homeowners automate aspects of their homes like temperature control, lighting, and security systems.

6. Sustainable design will continue to grow in popularity. More and more people are becoming aware of the importance of sustainability, and as a result, there will be a surge in interest in eco-friendly design options for the home.

7. Aging-in-place renovations – As more and more people choose to age in place, the demand for remodeling that allows for greater accessibility and comfortable living will continue to grow. Aging-in-place renovations can include widened doorways and hallways, lowered kitchen counters and cabinets, installation of grab bars and handrails, and the addition of ramps or stair lifts.

8. Smart home technology – Home automation is no longer a futuristic concept – it’s here now, and it’s only going to become more popular in the years ahead. By 2021, many homeowners will have replaced traditional light switches with smart switches that can be controlled by voice commands or mobile apps.

9. Hygge - The Danish concept of "hygge" refers to finding comfort, joy, and warmth in simple, relaxing things such as a cozy home. In terms of specific styles, expect to see more open floor plans, neutral colors, wood accents, and plants.
